Introduction This Access Statement is designed to explain more about the layout of Plum Tree Cottage, its environs and the locality. Please take a few moments to read through it to ensure that Plum Tree Cottage is suitable for your holiday needs before making a booking. LocalitySwanage is located within a valley, with the Town Centre being close to sea level. Plum Tree Cottage is located on the outskirts of Swanage on higher ground leading up to the coastal path at cliff top level. The 15 minute walk into town from Plum Tree Cottage is therefore predominantly downhill. Bell Street rises from the High Street in a gentle incline at first, but this gets steeper as you approach the cottage, which is close to the top end of Bell Street. The surrounding
Purbeck Hills offer some challenging walking country and spectacular views.
More gentle terrain is to be found in the nearby heathlands of Studland
and Corfe which are also within easy reach. Entrances The rear parking
area is located off the quite steeply sloping lane adjacent to the property.
The route from the rear parking area to the cottage is via a stone path
leading down to the stone patio to the rear of the cottage. The path slopes
gently down to the cottage and has no steps. Internally Internally there are two shallow steps between the rear hallway leading from the garden, kitchen and cloakroom to the dining room and lounge. A winding flight of stairs leads from the dining room to a quarter landing with further steps in each direction to the first floor giving access to the bedrooms and bathrooms located at this level. A handrail is provided. A further winding staircase leads from the first floor to the second, giving access to the bedrooms and shower room at this level. This staircase is slightly steeper than normal, again handrails are provided. The stairways
are provided with gates to prevent young children from accessing the top
of the stairs without supervision. Headroom within the cottage is restricted to the sides of the attic bedrooms, where the ceilings slope within the roof space. On other floors the headroom is generous but the doorways can be a problem for very tall guests and care must be exercised in this regard. The cloakroom and kitchen doors are particularly low (around 6ft). (Click here to view a floor plan of Plum Tree Cottage - you will need Adobe Reader.)
Externally The rear garden slopes down towards the cottage from the rear boundary, with stone steps leading down to the patio area. The paths and patios are of natural stone and, by nature, are not perfectly flat or level.
