from prevailing westerly winds, Swanage Bay is ideally suited for diving.
The Diving School was established in 1958, making it the UK's longest
established dive school, and can be found on Swanage Pier.
- Monkey
World
- offers sanctuary
and rehabilitation to over 150 primates of 15 species that have been
rescued from a life of abuse or illegal smuggling from around the world.
The sanctuary is open all year and there is plenty to do and see for
all the family.

- Purbeck
Sports Centre
- Purbeck
Sports Centre is a modern, accessible leisure centre featuring some
of the finest facilities on the south coast. It is situated half a mile
north of Wareham town centre. Everyone is welcome, either as a regular
or for a ´one-off´ visit. There is ample free parking (including
designated bays for disabled customers).
- Sandbanks
Ferry
- operates
between Sandbanks, Bournemouth and Shell Bay at Studland. This is the
quickest route to Swanage if you are travelling from the North or East.
- The
Swanage Carnival
- is the premier
carnival on the South Coast and is held during the last week of July.
This is a very popular week for holidaying in Swanage, so book Plum
Tree Cottage early to avoid disappointment!
- The
Swanage Folk Festival
- takes place
in September - here you can find information about the artists and activities
taking place.
- The
Swanage Jazz Festival
- takes place
during July - here you can find details about the artists taking part
and venues.
- The
Swanage Railway
- travels
six miles between Swanage and Norden. You can travel through the beautiful
Purbeck countryside in style passing the magnificent ruins of Corfe
Castle. You can find out more about timetables and special events at
this website.
- The
Tank Museum
- is the "home
of the tank", with plenty of exhibitions and activities for all
the family.
